Tucked between the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Sequim is one of Washington’s best-kept secrets. It’s a small town, sure—but it’s also packed with charm, views, and things to do. Whether you're staying with us at Oly Lodging or just passing through, Sequim makes it easy to relax, explore, and eat well.
Let’s dive into some of our favorite ways to enjoy the area.
Sequim has no shortage of good walks. But a few are true standouts.
First up? The Dungeness Levee Trail. It’s flat, peaceful, and perfect for a quiet stroll. You’ll get views of the farmland on one side and the Olympic Mountains on the other. And if you're up for a short detour, swing by Dungeness Valley Creamery. It's just off the trail and absolutely worth a stop.
Why? Two words: baby cows. You can pet them, take some adorable photos, and stock up on fresh dairy or house-made ice cream. Yes, it’s real milk-in-a-glass-bottle kind of good.
Another favorite spot is the Dungeness River Nature Center. It’s part nature museum, part wildlife hub, and a great spot for kids (or anyone who likes birds and hands-on exhibits). While you’re there, don’t miss the Trestle Bridge—an old railway bridge turned walking path. It spans the river with sweeping views and makes for a perfect photo op.
Still have walking energy? Head to the Dungeness Spit. This five-mile stretch of sand is one of the longest natural sand spits in the country. It juts way out into the Strait and ends at a lighthouse. You don’t have to walk the whole thing—but even a short stroll gives you incredible views and lots of sea breeze.
Let’s be honest—every adventure is better with good food. Luckily, Sequim delivers.
Start with a sit-down meal at Double Eagle Restaurant or Stymie’s Bar & Grill, both located at the Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course. These two are just minutes from many Oly rentals in the area, and the views of the greens are hard to beat. Their fish and chips? Solid choice.
Next up, drive down to the John Wayne Marina and check out Dockside Grill. It’s seafood-forward, upscale-casual, and right on the water. If you want fresh halibut or a glass of wine with a view—this is your spot.
Craving comfort food? Don’t miss the Old Mill Café in Carlsborg. The setting is rustic and cozy, and the portions are generous. It’s the kind of place where you walk out feeling full in the best way.
Now, for dessert. This may sound dramatic, but you haven’t lived until you’ve eaten a slice of marionberry pie from Lisa at Sweets & Treats in the Old Carlsborg Post Office. It’s tucked inside a little white building that you could easily drive past. Don’t. Trust us—it’s that good.
Other local favorites include Sunshine Café for simple, delicious breakfast plates and Oak Table Café for their famous German pancakes. (It’s kind of legendary. If you know, you know.)
Now. for the true coffee lovers looking for a nice single origin executed perfectly, stop by Essence Coffee. You won't be disappointed.
Sequim has a lot of great shopping, especially if you like local goods and quirky gifts.
First stop: Carlsborg Store. This historic gem stocks everything from small-batch tea to handmade home goods. It feels like a cross between a boutique and a general store, in the best way.
Then head to downtown Sequim, where you’ll find plenty of fun gift shops, bookstores, and a few excellent coffee spots. Wander, browse, sip—Sequim is a slow kind of place, and the downtown reflects that. You’re allowed to take your time.
Sequim is known for its lavender. And while July’s Lavender Festival brings the biggest crowds, you can visit the farms most of the year. (And avoid the traffic.)
A few of our absolute favorites:
Fat Cat Garden & Gifts on Cays Road: This one is playful and pet-friendly with lots of charm.
Lavender Connection, also on Cays Road: A peaceful spot where you can cut your own lavender and browse their essential oils.
https://www.bbfamilyfarm.com/ off Old Olympic Highway: Don’t let the name fool you—it’s a farm, not a bed and breakfast. Their fields are beautiful and their products are top-notch. Great photo spot too.
Even outside lavender season, these farms are worth a visit for their shops, scenery, and calming vibe. Plus, they smell amazing.
Sequim is the kind of place that sneaks up on you. It’s peaceful, but never boring. Relaxed, but full of surprises. Whether you’re here to pet baby cows, walk the spit, or eat an entire German pancake, you’ll find something to love.
