Every July, something magical happens on the Olympic Peninsula. The small town of Sequim, Washington, turns into a sea of purple, filled with the scent of blooming lavender and the buzz of excited visitors. It’s called the Sequim Lavender Festival, and it’s one of the most unique summer events in the Pacific Northwest. Whether you’re a plant lover, festival goer, or just someone who enjoys a good excuse to visit a charming town, this is a trip worth making.
The Sequim Lavender Festival is an annual celebration of all things lavender. It takes place every July, usually during the third weekend of the month, right at the height of the lavender bloom.
Sequim is famous for its sunny weather, rich soil, and dry climate—all of which make it perfect for growing lavender. In fact, this area is often called the “Lavender Capital of North America.”
During the festival, local farms open their gates to visitors. You can wander through fields of blooming lavender, cut your own bundles, take guided tours, and learn how lavender is used in everything from soap to cocktails.
But that’s not all. The town also hosts a huge street fair in Carrie Blake Park, complete with live music, local art, handmade goods, and—you guessed it—plenty of lavender-themed treats.
Of course, lavender fields are beautiful. But there’s more to this event than just pretty flowers.
First, it’s family-friendly. Kids can run through the open fields, pet animals at some of the farms, and enjoy hands-on craft stations at the park. Adults can sip lavender lemonade, try essential oil workshops, and browse art booths without worry.
Second, it’s perfect for photographers. The light in Sequim during the summer is golden and soft. Pair that with purple fields, rustic barns, and mountain views, and you’ve got a photo lover’s dream.
Third, it’s a great way to support small farms and local makers. Many of the lavender farms are family-owned and work year-round to prepare for this one weekend. Your visit helps keep them thriving.
You can’t go wrong visiting any of the farms, but a few are local favorites:
Lavender Connection
A peaceful, family-run farm where you can cut your own lavender, try essential oil distillation demos, and browse a charming farm shop.
B&B Lavender Farm
Despite the name, there’s no bed and breakfast here—just stunning rows of English and French lavender, with a beautiful view of the Olympic Mountains.
Fat Cat Farm & Gifts
Located on Cays Road, this spot has lavender, yes, but also gardens, cute gifts, and a laid-back vibe. Plus, they’re pet friendly.
The Sequim Lavender Festival draws a lot of people—so it helps to plan ahead.
Book your lodging early. Local spots like Oly Lodging fill up fast. Sequim isn’t huge, so nearby Port Angeles or Carlsborg can be great options too.
Wear sunscreen and comfy shoes. You’ll be outside a lot, and farm fields aren’t exactly paved.
Bring a bag (or two). You’ll definitely end up buying more than you planned.
Arrive early. Especially for the street fair and farm tours—parking is much easier before noon.
Bring the camera. Seriously, the views are incredible.
The Sequim Lavender Festival is more than just an event—it’s a whole weekend of scenic drives, fresh air, amazing smells, and friendly people. It’s the perfect excuse to slow down, explore the area, and support local farms while you’re at it.
Whether you’re traveling with your family, your pup, or just flying solo, there’s something here for everyone.
Just follow your nose and look for the purple.
