Tucked between the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Sequim is one of Washington’s best-kept secrets. It’s a small town, sure—but it’s also packed with charm, views, and things to do. Whether you're staying with us at Oly Lodging or just passing through, Sequim makes it easy to relax, explore, and eat well.
Let’s dive into some of our favorite ways to enjoy the area.
Port Angeles' weather has personality. In one day, you might see sun, mist, and a light drizzle. That’s part of the charm.
So, pack layers. Lots of them.
Start with moisture-wicking base layers. Then add long sleeves, a fleece or sweatshirt, and a lightweight rain jacket. A windbreaker helps too, especially if you’re heading out to the coast or up Hurricane Ridge.
It doesn’t get too hot here—even in summer. But the sun does come out, and it can feel warm during the day. So don’t forget a couple T-shirts or tank tops.
Even if the forecast looks dry, always bring rain gear. A waterproof jacket with a hood is a must. Umbrellas work, but they’re not great on trails or in the wind. If you’re planning lots of outdoor time (and you should), pack waterproof shoes or boots too.
Bonus points for wool socks. They stay warm even when wet.
Traveling to Port Angeles almost always includes walking. A lot of it. Between forest hikes, downtown exploring, and beachcombing, your feet will get a workout.
So, bring comfy shoes. Hiking boots or trail shoes are ideal. If you’re planning lighter activities, sneakers work fine too. Just make sure they’re broken in.
Water shoes or sandals with grip can be handy if you’re hitting the beach or tide pools.
Because you’re here for nature (we’re guessing), a few outdoor extras go a long way:
A daypack or small backpack for hikes
A reusable water bottle (hydration is key)
Sunscreen (yes, even in Washington)
Sunglasses
Bug spray, especially in the forest
A hat for sun or rain
Binoculars (wildlife is everywhere)
And if you’re heading up into Olympic National Park, toss in a map or download offline trail maps ahead of time. Cell service can be spotty in the mountains.
There’s no need to overpack. Skip the fancy clothes, uncomfortable shoes, or anything dry-clean-only. You also don’t need beach towels—most vacation rentals have what you need.
And don’t stress about packing your whole kitchen. If you’re staying with us at Oly Lodging, your rental comes with a fully stocked kitchen. We’re talking pots, pans, plates, even wine glasses. You’re set.
Traveling to Port Angeles is a breeze once you know what to pack. Layers, rain gear, sturdy shoes, and a sense of adventure are really all you need.
Whether you’re here to hike, eat, whale-watch, or just breathe deeply for a few days, this town welcomes you exactly as you are.
And if you forget something? Don’t worry. There’s a great outdoor store in town and plenty of places to grab a sweater or another pair of socks.
We’ll see you soon.
